HUN STORIES — Dublin Girlo

So I was asked to do a little write up on my views of the 8th amendment. I’m not gona lie to ya Huns; I was a bit wary of this one. Not because I’m worried my views won’t match yours, but because it is a serious issue, and me being serious, well I try to avoid that shit.

To me, the 8th is unbelievably outdated and I don’t know why it’s still in place when the country has come so far since 1983. We are now a Stunnin’ little island focused on equality but still have a government who refuse to give the women of Ireland a basic human right.

We have spent the last month celebrating our independence, how those men and women fought for our freedom and how far we have come since. But we have sent 66,000 women to the country we fought for our freedom from since this amendment came into effect. I’m sure Markievicz would be only fucking snappin’ if she knew!

We even legalised yolks for a day last year but still force 10 women to leave the country daily for a procedure they can’t have at home.

What people do with their wombs is none of my business, unless it involves a bloke who is supposed to be touching my womb only at the time.

I know a lot of people don’t agree with it and that’s fine but each to their own. It’s 2016, the choice should still be there for the people who have to make it.

At the end of the day it is a woman who has been dealing with her womb being ripped apart once a month every month since around her 12th birthday.

It is a woman who decided to have sex.

It is a woman who would be sobbing looking at a positive pregnancy test wondering what the fuck she is gonna do if she was facing a crisis pregnancy.

It is a woman who would have to carry the baby for 9 months.

It is a woman who is probably gona shit herself on a bed in front of a room full of people trying to push that baby out.

It is a woman who would be left looking after and providing for the child if the father decided to fuck off or play no part in the child’s life because a father is not obligated to stick around, not like a mother is.

It is a woman whose life would be completely up ended from the moment she had a wee on that stick if they found themselves in that situation.

And it should be that woman who decides if this is the life she wants or not.

No one in this country is forced to do anything against their own will, so why are women being forced to fly to the UK — or worse — buying shit to take from some random website because they feel they have no other choice.

If I was to post a pic of some slimmers I ordered from I would have people all over me telling me to do it the proper safe way, but this is what girls around the country are being reduced to because our country doesn’t provide a safe option for them.

Now, personally I am doing all I can to make sure I don’t end up in that situation because it’s not a situation I ever wana be in (a daily alarm at 4pm reminding me to swallow an oul Yasmin). But doing all I can to make sure it doesn’t happen to me is my choice. It’s my body after all….and what a fucking body at that.

It is all about choice, and the option should be here for the people from here who need it.

But like I said, what anyone else does with their womb and their body is fuck all got to do with me.

Who am I to be judging anyway.
